Water Quality Protection Project - Preparation of the Study of the Biological Monitoring of the Rivers and Lakes/Reservoirs in B&H.
The overall objective of the project was to establish a surface water quality monitoring system in Bosnia & Herzegovina that meets the requirements outlined in the EU WFD.
Activities of the project:
• collection of data on existing laws and regulations, institutional arrangements, pollution levels and main polluters;
• proposal of institutional improvements
• development of a harmonized methodology and testing of this methodology;
• development of BIO Monitoring Manual
• transfer of specific knowledge on the subject to all involved institutions;
• definition of procedures and methodologies according to EU WFD status classes based upon biological quality elements (specially phytoplankton, macrophytes, macroinvertebrates and phytobenthos for rivers and phytoplankton, zooplankton and macroinvertebrates for lakes/reservoirs); and
• development of a solid financing plan enabling the implementation of proposed procedures.
